Highlights

• The 1.5-litre turbocharged engine produces 185 hp of power and 300 Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed DCT

• The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine generates 261 hp of power and 405 Nm of torque, and comes with a 9-speed AT.

• Fuel economy sits at 14.5 km/litre for the 1.5T and 13.9 km/litre for the 2.0T in combined driving. Highway driving improves both figures noticeably.

• The suspension uses a double-wishbone front and multi-link rear setup. The ride absorbs highway imperfections smoothly while maintaining control in corners.

Some compromises:

• Both engines are well-calibrated; they’re known for offering less of the typical raw muscle power that one would expect.

• Even though the cabin insulation seems fine, the wind noise at high speed is quite apparent. This should improve in the subsequent facelift of the model.

• The 1.5T DCT lacks a manual shift mode, and you don’t get an all-wheel-drive option, but only front-wheel drive.

Highlights

• Nappa leather seats come standard on top trims. The front seats get Storm Eye motorsport-inspired design, and a higher trim is offered with luxury silk leather with microfibre suede.

• Front seats are ventilated on upper trims

• The steering wheel wraps in leather with multifunction controls. The button layout makes sense and is reachable without removing your hands.

• A large touchscreen supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the navigation works without any complaints or lag with voice control.

• A modern digital instrument cluster displays information clearly.

• A panoramic sunroof is available on most trims.

• AC with dual-zone capability.

• Advanced Driver Assistance Systems are integrated throughout, including Lane Keeping Assist, blind spot monitoring, and Parking Assistance.

• Wireless charging and USB ports are available, with practical storage and a trunk size of 475 litres

• Overall, the MG 7 impresses with its overall cabin size, lavish interior quality, and stylish design. Excellent built quality with comfort and convenience.

Highlights

• On highways, the suspension comfortably absorbs uneven road quality, while steering response is quick and very well weighted. Body control in corners is well-managed; the 2.0T benefits from refined suspension tuning. The difference between engines is noticeable.

• Electronic stability and traction control systems work well; Hill-Start Assist prevents rollback on inclines.

• Adaptive LED headlights help with cornering visibility at night, and the race mode allows customisation of driving dynamics. Steering feel, suspension stiffness, and throttle response can be adjusted.

Some compromises:

• The firm suspension means severe speed bumps send a noticeable impact into the cabin. It's a tradeoff for handling efficiency.

• Engine noise under hard acceleration from the 2.0T is noticeable. Normal driving keeps it quiet.

• Ground clearance limitations mean rough terrain isn't the MG 7's domain.

What we know:

• The body, made of high-tensile steel, provides structural rigidity, and crumple zones manage impact energy properly during a collision.

• A total of six airbags, and key features: Anti-Lock Braking System, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, and Brake Assist, all of which work under special circumstances to save from any potential threat while driving around. This boosts confidence.

• Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, and the Electronic Stability Program, along with Lane Keep Assist, Lane Change Indicator, Rear Collision Detection, Tire Pressure Monitoring, and Parking sensors, are equally vital and are part of the safety system of the MG 7, even at a much lower price point. Something you won’t find in a rival's car at this price.

• A 360-degree camera is helpful for parking in tight spaces.

What's less clear:

• Safety Rating: The MG 7 hasn't been independently crash tested by Euro NCAP.

• Driver Assistance: Some features found in premium competitors aren't available, like no forward collision warning with automatic braking on lower models.

• Service Network: MG's KSA service centres are developing compared to Toyota or Honda, but expanding rapidly across the Kingdom.
