Toyota Yaris

• The 1.3-litre 4-cylinder engine makes 97hp of power and 122 Nm of torque, modest but sufficient for daily drives. This engine isn't designed to impress with acceleration but to be efficient. Real-world fuel consumption sits consistently around 22.1 km/litre, a lot better for a petrol sedan. In heavy city traffic, you'll see closer to 19-20 km/litre.

• The CVT transmission paired with this engine is remarkably smooth, with no jerky downshifts or complexity about gearing. The transmission manages the engine efficiently, keeping revolutions in the sweet spot for both power and economy.

• The Yaris dimensions, like 4,425 mm of length, 1,740 mm of width, and 1,480 mm of height, make it quite reasonable to park and navigate on crowded roads, something buyers love.

• The engine comes with Dual VVT-i technology. That means variable valve timing adjusts continuously based on driving conditions. This technology improves efficiency and provides decent power across different driving scenarios. It's not fancy technology, just practical engineering by Toyota.

Some limitations

• This isn't a car for people who enjoy spirited driving and so keep in mind that throttle response is moderate.

• The steering isn't direct or engaging.

• The suspension is soft, more for comfort than handling precision. If you want a car that makes driving fun, the Yaris isn't it.

• If you want reliable and economical transportation, it absolutely is.

• On smooth city roads and highways, the suspension feels compliant. The steering is light and responsive, easy to park and manoeuvre through traffic.

• Body control through corners is stable. The Yaris leans in curves as expected for a sedan this compact, but it never feels unstable. Grip is adequate for normal driving. You won't feel like the car is struggling to maintain composure through tight bends.

• Despite being a compact sedan, you’ll be surprised by the excellent visibility. This also makes it easy to park and navigate even on busy roads.

• Noise isolation is respectable for this price point. The suspension is comfortable for daily use but firm enough that you'll notice rough surfaces.

• Road handling is predictable, and the car doesn't surprise you. It is simple, which is its strength.

• The touchscreen is available in two sizes: 7 and 9-inch displays, depending on trim; however, they appear to be good, responsive and intuitive. Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth connectivity are standard. USB ports for charging devices are included. The integration is seamless, and nothing to get intimidated about.

• Climate control is digital automatic on upper trims, while its manual on base models. The air conditioning responds quickly in Saudi heat. Rear AC vents keep back passengers cool, and the cabin stays comfortable even when the outside temperature hits 50 degrees Celsius.

• Seating is fabric throughout, but the upholstery quality is respectable. The material is durable and practical for families. Comfort is solid for daily commuting.

• The console area includes a proper storage compartment, cupholders for both driver and front passenger, door pockets, and multiple shelves. It's practical storage, not luxury styling. But it actually works for daily needs. The boot space is adequate for weekly shopping and small luggage.

• The steering wheel on higher trims is leather-wrapped with audio controls. The instrument panel is simple and clearly laid out.

• LED headlamps are standard, providing good visibility without being overly aggressive. The exterior design is contemporary without being trendy.

Honest impression

• The interior doesn't feel premium, but it is practical. That's intentional. Toyota focused on reliability and value rather than luxury perception. For the price, that's the right choice.

• The structure uses high-tensile steel with crumple zones. Yaris gets 6 airbags, two front  airbags for driver and front passenger and also side-impact and curtain coverage.

• ABS with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist come standard. Vehicle Stability Control helps prevent skids on slippery surfaces.

• Higher trims include advanced safety features such as pre-collision warning detects objects ahead and alerts the driver. If the collision risk is high, the system can apply the brakes automatically. Lane departure alert warns if you drift without signalling. Adaptive cruise control maintains a distance from vehicles ahead.

• The rear camera is standard on all trims, making reversing less stressful. Parking sensors help confirm distances.

• The pre-collision warning actually works. Lane departure alerts genuinely prevent unintended lane changes. Adaptive cruise control on longer drives reduces driver fatigue and ensures an effortless drive.

Keep in Mind

The Yaris hasn't been independently crash tested by Euro NCAP for this newest generation, but Toyota's safety engineering is proven globally. The emphasis is on occupant protection through structure and active safety systems.
