Peugeot 2008

• The base Active variant gets a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder with figures of 115 hp and 160 Nm of torque. On Allure+ and GT, there is a 1.2-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine with 130-155 hp and 230-240 Nm. There are two transmission options: a 6-speed automatic and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
• The 1.6L base engine is fine for adequate city performance but feels underwhelming for highway driving. The power is not enough if you look at the competition in this segment. Also, it lacks power and enthusiasm while accelerating or attempting highway merges.
• The 1.2L turbocharged engine is the more sensible choice. It has a better mid-range punch and feels more confident on Saudi highways. The 8-speed automatic is smoother than the 6-speed unit.
• The 165 mm of ground clearance is fine for Saudi speed breakers and city roads and urban obstacles. 

Some Realities:

• The base 1.6L engine is frankly outclassed in 2026. With 115 hp, it struggles to keep pace with turbocharged competitors that offer 140-160 hp.
• The 1.2L turbo is better but could have been better. Its 130-155 hp output sounds reasonable; the lightweight 3-cylinder engine feels on the lower side, and when you wish to push it hard, there is clearly a lack of refinement compared to 4-cylinder rivals.
• Front-wheel drive is the only option; there is no all-wheel-drive variant.
• The driving dynamics are good for comfort over engagement. You feel body roll in corners, and the steering, while light for parking, provides minimal feedback. Clearly, this is a crossover designed for practical daily use, not for fun driving.

On smooth highways, the ride is comfortable and reasonably quiet. Wind and road noise remain well-controlled at moderate speeds, but at higher speeds you may feel a bit. The suspension absorbs gentle undulations quite well.

You get to see all vehicle info clearly on the digital instrument cluster. The 10-inch touchscreen is better for graphics and responsive touch controls. Navigation is available but not standard.

Parking is easy thanks to the compact dimensions, light steering, and standard rear parking sensors. 

On the GT, there is a reversing camera and a 360-degree camera system, making tight spaces manageable.

Being a crossover, the higher seating position provides a good view of traffic and improves confidence in city driving. Overall visibility is fine, though the rising beltline and small rear windows create some blind spots.

Things That Matter More:

• On rough roads, you may feel that the ride quality is somewhat lacking. The rear torsion beam suspension struggles with sharp bumps, sending jolts through the cabin. More expensive multi-link setups, as found in some competitors, provide better isolation.
• Handling is not really anything special; the 2008 leans noticeably in corners, and the light steering offers little feedback.
• Noise insulation is acceptable but not exceptional.
• The 8-speed automatic (on turbo variants) generally shifts smoothly but can hesitate when you demand quick downshifts for overtaking. The 6-speed automatic (on the base model) feels less refined and more reluctant.

• All variants come with an i-Cockpit layout with a compact steering wheel positioned below a high-mounted digital instrument cluster. The Active variant gets a 7-inch touchscreen, while the Allure+ and GT upgrade to a 10-inch HD display. There is a standard with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• You get fabric seats and manual AC on the base model; on the top ones, you get automatic dual-zone climate control and features like a panoramic sunroof and a wireless phone charger. 
• On GT variants there is full leather, 18-inch alloy wheels, active parking assist, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic emergency braking.
• Cargo space measures 434 litres with seats up, expanding to 1,467 litres when the 60/40 split-folding rear seats are lowered. 

Interior materials feel premium for the segment, with soft-touch surfaces and well-finished plastics. The terraced dashboard design creates visual interest, and ambient lighting makes it premium.

What's Missing:

• The i-Cockpit layout doesn't suit everyone. The small steering wheel can obstruct the digital cluster depending on your seating position, especially for taller drivers. 
• Most adults will find the rear-seat space tight. Passengers over six feet tall will struggle with legroom, particularly if front occupants are also tall. Three adults in the back is uncomfortable for anything beyond short trips.
• The high boot lip, while not unique to the 2008, makes loading heavy luggage awkward. On the Kona and Seltos you get more practical cargo access.
• Storage solutions inside the cabin are adequate but not anything great. The cupholders, door pockets, and centre console provide decent space, but nothing stands out as particularly clever.

• The base Active trim has dual front airbags, ABS, an electronic stability programme, traction control, hill-start assist, and brake assist. Rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera, cruise control, and ISOFIX anchor points are standard.
• The top variant gets four extra airbags and a panoramic sunroof. The GT upgrades to six airbags and includes advanced driver assistance systems: lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, driver attention alert, high-beam assist, and automatic emergency braking. Active parking assist is also exclusive to the GT trim.
• Tyre pressure monitoring is standard across the range. Child safety locks and speed-sensing door locks are included. The GT adds keyless entry and start.

Things to Consider:

• Two airbags on the base Active trim will feel inadequate in 2026; most Saudi buyers will find it hard to consider. Many competitors offer six airbags as standard even on entry variants. Even at higher variants with four airbags, they are still below segment expectations.
• Advanced driver assistance systems are only available on the GT variant. Features like automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist should ideally be standard across the range, not reserved for the top model.
• The 2008 hasn't undergone independent crash testing specifically for the Middle East market.
• Peugeot's dealer presence in Saudi Arabia is limited compared to mainstream Japanese and Korean brands. Parts availability can be inconsistent, and service quality varies between locations.

Resale value is a legitimate concern if you are considering KSA. French brands, including Peugeot, are all known to depreciate faster in the Saudi market than their Japanese or Korean equivalents. A 2-to-3-year-old 2008 will lose significantly more value than a Hyundai Kona or Toyota Corolla Cross, impacting total ownership costs.
