Saudi Arabia: CEER was officially launched in 2022 as part of Saudi Arabia’s economic transformation strategy under the Public Investment Fund. It was launched with a partnership between Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Taiwan’s Foxconn.  With an aim to build Saudi Arabia’s own electric vehicles specially designed for the local climate, roads, and driving habits. It’s part of Vision 2030 to support the  Saudi Green Initiative for carbon neutrality by 2060. CEER could create thousands of jobs and boost local manufacturing.

    Inside CEER’s Advanced Production Ecosystem

    The company is constructing a state-of-the-art Ceer Manufacturing Complex in King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC) on the Red Sea coast. This comprises the press shop, one of the world’s most advanced paint shops, and full assembly lines. The production of the vehicles will start in Q4 2026. 

    Ceer has already signed 16 commercial agreements worth over SAR 3.7 billion to source components locally, with an aim to 45% Saudi content by 2034. This would increase the localization and contribute positively to the GDP. Other deals include the SAR 8.2 billion contract with Hyundai Transys for advanced electric drive systems. 

    The First CEER Cars: A New Saudi Electric Identity

    Initially, CEER will focus on two of the most important vehicle categories, which are: 

    • Electric sedan
    • Electric SUV

    Both sedans and SUVs make up around 75 percent of the total car sales in Saudi Arabia. It would give the company an edge to focus on these categories and diversify later. Based on the leaks and spy shots, we could witness a modern, premium car at an affordable price. With the following expected features:

    The design language of the car looks futuristic, giving it a head-turning look. It is likely to feature the low, aerodynamic wedge profile, flat nose as seen in the leaks. The vehicles will be designed for the Saudi conditions with better heat management, durability for varied Saudi driving conditions, along with distinctive looks. It is likely to feature: 

    • Extreme wedge-shaped silhouette as seen in the Cybertruck
    • One of the world’s largest windshields
    • Steeply raked roofline and angular bodywork
    • Gullwing or butterfly-style doors with glass elements
    • Rugged off-road-ready tires and thick cladding
    • Slim LED lighting signatures 

    Challenges on the Road Ahead

    Even though the Ceer has a strong backing from the Public Investment Fund, the automotive industry is very complex. So it is prone to face the following challenges, mostly in the initial phase:
