Saudi Energy Efficiency Center Launches Campaign to Introduce New 2027 Vehicle Fuel Economy Label

Saudi Arabia is taking another major step toward improving vehicle efficiency and supporting sustainable mobility. The Saudi Energy Efficiency Center (SEEC) has announced that it will be launching a new nationwide awareness campaign titled “A Label You Know”. Under this it will be introducing the updated vehicle fuel economy label that will be applied to 2027 model-year vehicles across Saudi Arabia. 

Who the Campaign Targets

The awareness initiative is designed for multiple groups, including:

• Buyers planning to purchase a new vehicle
• Drivers looking for the most fuel-efficient cars
• Daily car users comparing vehicle options
• Car dealerships and authorized agents
• Online car sales platforms
• Leasing and fleet companies

Three Types of Updated Fuel Economy Labels

SEEC has confirmed that the new system introduces the following three types of fuel economy labels, depending on vehicle powertrain type. These labels are designed to make efficiency a key factor in purchasing decisions across Saudi Arabia and makes the understanding of the fuel efficiency information easier.

Here are the Updated Three Types of Fuel Economy Labels:

1. Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) Vehicles

This is for the petrol or diesel vehicles, that will be displaying:

• Fuel consumption measured in kilometers per liter (km/l)
• Easy-to-read efficiency ratings
• Comparative performance indicators

2. Electric Vehicles (EVs)

As the adoption of electric vehicles is growing in the Saudi Arabia, this new label  the new introduces clearer information for electric mobility:

• Equivalent fuel consumption efficiency (km/l equivalent)
• Battery capacity information
• Energy efficiency comparison with conventional vehicles

3. Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)

Under this campaign the Plug-in hybrids are also getting their dedicated label including information for both the combustion engine and electric motor: 

• Combined efficiency of electric and combustion systems
• Equivalent fuel consumption rating
• Engine specifications and battery performance
