MG ZS

• This is available on the mid and top variants and promises good city performance, like on King Fahd Road in Riyadh at rush hour or navigating the Corniche in Jeddah, and the turbo response is satisfying for a car at this price. It offers three drive modes, including Sport, which sharpens the throttle noticeably and gives you something to work with.
• The turbo engine achieves mileage of around 13 to 15 km per liter depending on how hard the AC is working, which is respectable for a turbocharged engine in the summer heat of Riyadh or Al Khobar.​
• But for whatever reason, if you are considering the base standard trim on an Aqsat plan, it gets the naturally aspirated 1.5 L with 112 hp. This is a modest engine that does its regular work well, which is fine, just not exciting.

Some Realities

• For many buyers, the CVT may not be the best choice. It tends to hesitate during hard acceleration. So, if you are overtaking on the Dammam expressway and need a quick response, that lag is noticeable. 
• But adoption is not a big deal; however, if you check out some rivals, then the difference is noticeable. So keep an eye on that when you are exploring. 
• The front-wheel drive only is an option here; you don't get AWD. 

• Similarly, the suspension absorbs mid-height speed bumps you encounter daily across older districts in Dammam and Al Khobar without sending shocks through the cabin.
• The 360-degree camera on the luxury trim makes parking simple in tight spots, and front sensors add confidence in crowded commercial areas like Al Tahlia Street and Jeddah's city center. If you really see, these two features together make a city driver’s life easy.

Things That Matter More

• On the highway, things change, though. At sustained speeds above 120 km/h on the road toward Makkah or the dual carriageway heading up to Taif, the ZS feels lighter and less planted than you might want. 
• Being an affordable segment, the cabin is not the most silent.
• The torsion beam rear suspension, common at this price, means rear passengers feel uneven road surfaces more than they would in a car with a fully independent rear setup. On the smooth tarmac of most Saudi main roads, it is livable. But this is not the case on the older roads in parts of Jeddah or the industrial areas of Dammam; second-row passengers will feel every surface change.
• So, if this is going to be your primary family highway car between Saudi cities, explore it in detail and face that reality before you sign the Murabaha agreement. However, if this is mostly a city car with occasional weekend runs, it is a non-issue.

• Higher trims offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are four USB ports, rear air vents, auto climate control, and leather seats on the luxury trim, features that make the cabin feel complete for a family of five heading to Madinah or spending a weekend in Abha.
• The panoramic sunroof is another high point of the car. If you are coming from a Hyundai Accent or Kia Pegas, the ZS interior really feels like a level up. The reason is that MG understood that Saudi buyers want visual quality.

What is missing?

• But as you spend more time with the ZS, the gaps appear. The lower door panels and hard plastic surfaces around the center console remind you where the cost-cutting happened.
• The front passenger seat is only manually adjusted, even on the luxury trim. On a longer drive from Riyadh to Dammam, your passenger will notice this if they need to adjust their position mid-journey.
• Seat ventilation is absent across all ZS trims.

What is Included

• MG Pilot ADAS is available on Comfort and Luxury trims with Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and Adaptive Cruise Control. For a compact SUV under SAR 85,000 in Saudi Arabia, this level of active safety was not common in this segment just two years ago; this is where Chinese brands have taken the lead in the market. The blind spot monitoring and the 360-degree camera on upper trims add real daily confidence in the dense traffic around Al Andalus in Jeddah or the roundabouts of Al Nakheel in Riyadh.
• The six-year or 200,000 km warranty is one of the strongest buying arguments for the ZS in Saudi Arabia. No Japanese rival at this price comes close, and for buyers cautious about a Chinese brand, it provides reassurance.

Things to Consider

• There is no Gulf-specification crash test data for the ZS. 
• If you plan to sell within 3-4 years, resale value is a concern; own it longer, and that is no longer an issue.
