• All petrol variants come with a CVT with a 10-speed manual sequential mode; hybrids are offered with an Electronic CVT (E-CVT) for smooth shifting.
• Fuel tank capacity is 50 litres, which is sufficient for such a compact sedan. One major highlight of the Corolla is its high fuel efficiency, which means lower running costs.
• Dimensions are compact yet spacious, measuring 4630 mm in length, 1780 mm in width, 1435 mm in height, and 1455 mm for the hybrid, and a 2700 mm wheelbase. This is perfectly aligned with city sedan characteristics.
• The ground clearance is 160 mm for typical road use, and is something you expect from a sedan. It has been offered with highly responsive electric power steering with McPherson front suspension and double-wishbone rear, tuned for comfort.
• The Corolla is always known as practical for city driving and parking with a turning radius of 5.2 meters, but not designed for off-road or sporty driving needs.

Some compromises

• All engines are modest in power. The 1.5L is leisurely, and even the 2.0L feels measured compared to turbocharged competitors. Similarly, the acceleration is fine, certainly not thrilling.

• No all-wheel-drive option. Front-wheel-drive only. Fine for paved roads and normal conditions.

• On smooth highways and paved roads, the suspension absorbs imperfections effectively. The ride feels stable and composed. Highway cruising is genuinely comfortable. The Steering response is immediate and properly weighted, and direct connection to the road without excessive feedback. You feel in control, something most drivers love about the sedan.

• Body control in corners is not bad; you can’t complain, don’t feel excessive roll through curves. The world-class sedan stays planted during normal driving.

• For your everyday city driver, the compact turning radius is a great help, and parking is straightforward. The driving position is such that visibility is perfect, and moving through crowded roads is effortless.

• On the highway, it is a different story, but mostly positive. The stability at speed is quite comforting; for the most part, it comes across as controlled and composed, even for 4-5-hour drives, if you won’t feel tired, as the cabin is quite silent.

• In hybrid mode, it is extra quiet during low-speed electric driving. The smooth power transition between the electric motor and the petrol engine. Less engine vibration means a refined feel.

Some compromises

• Not many compromises, other than minor issues. Some drivers feel the suspension is firm, some bumps at tough patches, but not a big deal.

• Engine noise is noticeable under acceleration, but again, not something most drivers will find an issue with.  The hybrid mode keeps it quiet during electric-only operation.

• The 1.5L engine feels underpowered when carrying a full load plus passengers.

• Fabric and Leather seats, with adequate support for daily commuting, and the rear seat headrests are standard, along with the driver's seat being adjustable.

• The 7/8-inch touchscreen option, Apple Car Play and Android Auto, USB, AUX, and Bluetooth connectivity are standard. A single-zone automatic climate control, rear air conditioning help beat the hot KSA summers.

• Moon-roof, electric operation with anti-pinch safety, plenty of practical storage, driver and front passenger map-reading lamps.

• Panoramic View Monitor, 360-degree camera system on select variants, Bi-beam LED headlamps, and 17-inch alloy wheels add visual appeal.

• Trunk capacity is 470 litres standard, 60/40 split fold-down rear seats, quite adequate for weekly shopping and luggage.

• Chrome radiator grille and door handles, clean modern design, Interior colours include black and beige options. The dashboard design is minimalist and straightforward. There are power windows and central locking, remote key less entry and Push-button start

• Overall, the Corolla prioritises practicality. Build quality is solid. Materials feel durable and won't disappoint.

What we know

1. The high-tensile steel body with front and rear crumple zones and a crash safety structure designed to absorb impact and protect occupants.

2. There are standard models with 6+ airbags that take care of the safety of the driver, front passenger, side, and curtain areas, and families feel a lot more secure driving around in the Corolla.

3. Three-point pre-tensioned seat belts with emergency locking on all seats make sure everyone has got restraint during sudden stops or any unexpected impact.

4. Some features that are essential for advanced braking and stability systems are ABS with EBD, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control, and Hill-Start Assist to maintain traction and control.

What to watch out for:

• The Corolla has received 5-star safety ratings from Global NCAP and is known for its higher rating from IIHS. But it is always essential to check the crash testing to confirm structural integrity and occupant protection.

• You won’t get advanced ADAS features, and adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, or lane keeping assist are not offered on base models.
